Ford Motor Company
Ford Motor Company12/03/2008 Ford Motor Co. reported sharply lower sales for the month of October. Perhaps the worst industry-wide auto sales in over 25 years. Ford sales fell a year earlier by 30 percent when its Volvo unit was included in those sales. Analysts say its possible Japan's Toyota's Motor Corporation will surpass GM Corporations as the U.S. sales leader for the first time in history. After a 32 percent drop in sales, Toyota launched zero percent financing on almost all of its models and hopefully will post decent sales as a result. The only two vehicles Ford reported that loss sales were the Lincoln Town Car and the Ford Flex, a newly introduced vehicle. Fords SUV sales plunged 54 percent from a year ago and crossover sales were off by 39 percent. Sales of cars fell 27 percent from a year earlier while sales of trucks and vans declined 19 percent. Ford has more cash on hand than its U.S. rivals. Experts are worried that the weak sales and tight credit could cause the U.S. automakers to run out of cash as soon as mid 2009.
